Grassroots Activism

WHFPT supports grassroots activism to keep the movement for family planning alive. Family planning providers often find themselves at the center of controversy caused by opponents of accessible contraception, and medically accurate sex education. WHFPT teaches providers how to counter attacks from religious extremists and advocate for their services within their local communities. We have taught workshops on media, message training, combating the religious right, and other timely public affairs topics. We offer trainings on health care regulations, medical issues, finances and other issues that affect a provider’s ability to serve clients effectively.

WHFPT mobilizes its membership for grassroots advocacy on the state and local level. We produce and distribute position papers on current issues for all our members, as well as for policy makers and the public. We arrange for local family planning providers to testify at public hearings in their area.
